Combining vibrant mixed media painting and woodcuts, this exhibition will bring together three contemporary artists working in Cornwall.

About

Combining vibrant mixed media painting and woodcuts, this exhibition will bring together three contemporary artists working in Cornwall. All the artists exhibit across the UK, and their work reveals a wide range of responses to the Cornish landscape, ranging from abstract to figurative, from monotone to multi-hued.

Angela Annesley

Angela works with paint and ink to create her bold and unsettling woodcuts and colourful paintings of the Cornish landscape. Her work captures the forces of wind and waves in undulating, vibrant shapes and patterns. She also produces books featuring poetic prose and woodcuts. Her artistic collaborations have included working with writers, filmmakers, ballet dancers, circus performers, as well as other visual artists. She is a Trustee of the Cornwall Crafts Association and exhibits as part of the artist-run collaborative Art Space Gallery in St Ives and in galleries across Cornwall as well as with the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts in Exeter, and in London and Bath, St Ives. Her work is held in the Trelissick archive for the National Trust and in private collections worldwide.

Ria Poole

Ria Poole is a contemporary painter working in West Cornwall. Her work is intimately situated in the Cornish landscape, where she paints en plein air in all weathers, sometimes in hard to reach coastal locations to enable her to capture the most interesting perspectives. The expressive abstraction of her studio work is playfully unbound, embracing a range of techniques and media, celebrating colour and painterliness.

Ria exhibits widely across the UK and is a member of St Ives Society of Artists and an associate member of Penwith Society of Arts. Her paintings have been shortlisted for various art prizes, including Creates Emerging Artist Award 2020, Black Swan Open Art Prize 2019, and Artists and Illustrators Artists of the Year Award 2018.
