About

Born to Polish parents in North Wales, the first 11 years of Jackowski's life were spent in a post-war refugee camp. His work delves into the resulting themes of dispossession, family, childhood and the voyage of the self in memory, dreams and paint. He was made Professor of Painting at the University of Brighton and has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally. In 2012 Rachel Campbell-Johnston (The Times) wrote about his series of drawings titled 'The Voyage': This is the place of life and death, of disembodiment and sex: a place of things breaking up and being put together again. It is a subconscious land which distils the essence of the self.
