Andrew Munoz - Selected Works

About

An exhibition of works by Academician Andrew Munoz RWA will be on show in the lower ground floor Link Space Gallery. The works have been specially selected by Janette Kerr President of the RWA and Fiona Robinson RWA.

These selected works are not intended to be read as allegories or parables, there is no hidden meaning, truth, or morality lesson here, but rather a personal, instinctive response to my own sensibilities surrounding the darker side of Human society and nature.

The narratives that occasionally form the ‘triggers’ for the paintings have varied origins; a strong childhood memory, or a response to an existing image or news item. Allowing the material of the paint to evolve the image, these initial narratives are then lost during the process of painting and others inevitably emerge in their place. The figures and the ‘landscapes’ also evolve and transform into something hopefully recognisable to the viewer, not only to the eye, but to the imagination.

Andrew Munoz was born in London in 1967. He studied in the West Country, at Plymouth College of Art and Falmouth College of Art after living and working in Spain.

His work refers to traditional landscape and figure painting but the landscapes and figures, or ‘phsychological models’ represented in his paintings are contemporary. His various groups of work have dealt with war (Violare), childhood memory, (The Picture Book Paintings), and social narrative (Cautionary Tales and Devolvers).

He is currently based in Bristol and exhibits regularly in the UK and abroad.
