'And so it was, and so it is' is the culmination of a year's collaborative work. In the form of a large scale group installation, the 6 artists will be exploring the work created over the duration of this project, interlinking themes and practices to create new narratives and tales .

About

With Florent Dubois, Graeme Durant, Jemma Egan, Lindsey Mendick, Suzanne Posthumus and Josh Whitaker

OPENING NIGHT // Friday 9 September, 6-9pm
// Curators' Tour 5pm

EXHIBITION CONTINUES // At Turf Gallery until 22 October // Open Tue - Sat, 11am - 5pm

Challenging the traditional format of the themed group exhibition, over the past year the 6 artists have been collaborating to write a short story that formed the groundwork for the show 'It Was A Dark And Stormy Night'. The exhibition travelled to Castlefield Gallery, Manchester and Two Queens, Leicester, each time producing a new incarnation. Much like an exquisite corpse game, the artists took turns in adding a line to a story and from this story the artists created sensational and exaggerated work which celebrated the farce and lightness that underpins their practice.

'And so it was, and so it is' is the culmination of a year's collaborative work. In the form of a large scale group installation, the 6 artists will be exploring the work created over the duration of this project, interlinking themes and practices to create new narratives and tales . The artists will be taking over the walls, floors, Twitter and Instagram of Turf Projects, submerging all aspects of the gallery's identity into their overzealous and sensational aesthetic.

To coincide with the exhibition Turf will host a programme of related events including a Curator’s tour, Publication launch, Family Art Fun Day, Reading Group and a Lunchtime Artist Crit. For further details on the programme please visit turf-projects.com.

The exhibition and events were made possible with the generous support of the Arts Council England & Centrale Shopping Centre, Croydon.
