An Odyssey of Chaos is multi-award-winning artist Lewis Deeney's first solo show in Glasgow. His revolutionary approach to abstract painting will be displayed in the iconic Glasgow Art Club.

About

Lewis Deeney stands out for his unique, interlocking geometric compositions that unify hard edges with sensual painterly forms. His compelling and often paradoxical paintworks harmonise chaos and order, presenting transcendent expanses of bold textures and shimmering colours. Lewis draws from his interest in ancient ancestral wisdom and contemporary science and technological innovations, often combining mandala symbols with modern expressionist elements. The resulting introspective works act as a form of visual meditation, cultivating mindfulness and an awareness of the beauty around us, the potential within us, and the connections between us. Lewis fuses old and new in his creative process, paying homage to time-honoured mark-making while using digital media and laser cutters to complete his work.

A retrospective look at Deeneys artistic development over the past five years, A Odyssey of Chaos is an insight into the creative journey of one of Scotlands most exciting new artists. Featuring older paintings alongside new paintings from a new project as Lewis prepares to represent Scotland at the Interceltique festival in France this summer.

About the artist.

Lewis Deeney’s unique creative process combines interlocking geometric forms with abstract expressionist painting. The result is a compelling interplay of chaos and order, creating transcendent paintings with an iridescent glow.
Scottish-born; Lewis grew up in Dumbarton before moving to Dundee to pursue a contemporary art degree. He graduated with a first-class honour in 2020, during which Lewis won two awards and was selected for the Freeland’s Painting Prize. After being awarded the William S Phillips award, a bursary for his tuition fees, Lewis continued his studies at DJCAD graduating with merit in MFA Art & Humanities in 2021. Within one year of graduating, Lewis has had two solo shows in Scotland and his paintings have been collected by public institutions and private collectors across the UK & Europe. In 2023 Lewis was shortlisted for the Chaiya Art & Spirituality award and will also be representing Scotland at the Interceltique Festival, in France. Currently, Lewis works near Glasgow, Scotland.
