Over the weekend you will learn handbuilding skills from pinch pots, coil building, slab building, and create surface texture using many different tools. You will also have the opportunity to add colour, imagery and surface pattern to your work using slip decorating techniques, including sgraffito and slip trailing.
No previous experience necessary.
Please note: Per person the course price includes 6 kg white earthenware clay, slip (5 colours), glaze (white and transparent) and two kiln firings per. objects made. It is possible for students to purchase clay during the course. Additional clay will be charged at £4 per 1 kg of fired work. Work should be paid for on collection (cash only)
Due to the time it takes for the clay to dry and be bisque fired, the tutors can glaze the sculptures after the course.
Collecting work: Students will be notified by email when their work is ready to collect. This may take up to a month depending on the workload.
Work may be damaged during the firing process. Please wear appropriate clothing. We do provide aprons.
Course dates: Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd December 2017
Number of places available: 12
Tutors: Alex Simpson (RCA)
Alex obtained her Masters degree in Ceramics from the Royal College of Art. She works as a technician at the RCA and at a school. Her own practice uses fired and unfired clay to create sculptures and installations. View her work here.
