About
An Exhibition of Works from the Aktis Gallery Collection includes paintings by artists from the Ecole de Paris, the remarkable community of predominantly foreign modern artists, many of them Russian, who had settled in Paris after 1900. Included are works by Jules Pascin, André Derain, Pierre Bonnard, Marie Vassilieff, Alexandre Iacovleff, André Lanskoy, Serge Charchoune and Pinchus Kremegne, each of whom made, in their own way, a mark on the history of art of this period. The Cuban sculptor, Augustin Cardenas, who settled in Paris in the 1950s also features in the exhibiton.Aktis Gallery focuses on 20th century artists who have worked in exile. In 2010 they held the first UK retrospective exhibition for the contemporary Russian non-conformist artist Vladimir Yankilevsky which featured loans of major triptychs from the collections of the Museum Bochum, Germany and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.
