Join us for an evening of experimental sound performances by artist, composer, and sound designer Zai Tang, experimental musician Rosemainy Buang from SKALA featuring Syafiq Halid, and sound artist Zul Mahmod on 2 July Saturday, from 5PM to 8PM.

Performance by Zai Tang

5.00PM – 6.00PM

Zai Tang is a multidisciplinary artist based in Singapore. Drawing influence from acoustic ecology, phenomenology and electronic & experimental music, his practise is built upon a belief that listening is an invaluable means of attuning to and forming deeper relationships with the worlds we inhabit.

Mantram Sakti by SKALA

6.00PM – 7.00PM
A powerful prayer to thank the universe, and to constantly seek balance in one’s soul searching.

Rosemainy Buang is a gamelan musician, composer and educator. Having been trained in gamelan for the past 10 years, Rose looks forward to expanding her practice through creating and collaborating with other practitioners of different art forms. Fuelled by a philosophy in gamelan, where the relationship between musician and music trumps technical ability, Rose aspires to ascend towards rasa, the highest form of aesthetics in karawitan.

Syafiq Halid is a sound designer, electronic artist, and percussionist based in Singapore. He has developed a unique style, mixing percussion with samples and electronic music influences. Syafiq constantly pushes his boundaries by exploring and experimenting with a variety of sounds and elements. He has worked in different capacities in the contemporary theatre-dance performing arts and projects.

LeyLa by Zul Mahmod

7.00PM – 8.00PM
Discover the ambient world of electromagnetic fields ultrasonic noises from CDs/DVDs played on several DVD players. Listen to the sound of everyday electronic objects – sound waves with frequencies outside of the human hearing limits.

Lighting by Andy Lim

Zulkifle Mahmod (b. 1975) is one of Singapore’s leading sound artists. Zul has been at the forefront of a generation of sound-media artists in Singapore’s contemporary art development – one of the genres of international contemporary art-making that has been garnering interest for its inter-disciplinary approach and experimental edge. Zul represented Singapore with a Sound Art Performance at the Ogaki Biennale in 2006, and was Singapore’s first sound artist with a full-on sound sculpture at the Singapore Pavilion of the 52nd Venice Biennale 2007.

With his minimalistic approach and dramaturgical integration of source material, Andy Lim roots his process in design concepts based on research and a keen sensitivity to the history, present and future imbued and reflected in each individual project; his artistic intention always striving towards creating emotion – at once abstract and moving, when experienced.
