About

Come and join us in Open Eye Gallery for the launch of An Ecology of Care!

2-6pm

A live performance from The Singing Mamas’ Choir will kick off the launch at 2pm in our Atrium space followed by refreshments, conversation and a dedicated buggy parking area! We will then hear from participants from the Dementia Network Group at 4.30pm, who will be giving a guided tour of their work From Across the Kitchen table (Who is the Community?).

Ecology of Care is an exhibition bringing together a series of innovative socially engaged projects reflecting the intimate stories of care, relationships and resilience within our community.

‘Care’ and ‘community’ have become buzzwords in recent years, but the projects included in An Ecology of Care exhibition attempt to highlight the genuine power of collective discussion and action from those with lived experiences in relation to health and social care.

The work shown will include Bound/Frayed, a collaborative project between photographer Tadhg Devlin and a number of staff and people supported by the social care charity, Community Integrated Care.

There will be a reading corner, showcasing a series of publications by recent graduates from our joint Socially Engaged Photography MA with the University of Salford. Featured graduates are Vilija Skubute and Joseph Lee. These publications will sit alongside a previous work by Tadhg Devlin, Amelia and Amelia; a DIY survival guide for caring for someone living with Dementia.

From Across the Kitchen Table (Who is the Community?) will be on show, a collaboration with people living with dementia in Liverpool and Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Our upstairs space will showcase the national touring programme, Holding Time, produced by photographic artist Lisa Creagh and a group of local mothers. The project challenges stereotypes and preconceptions about breastfeeding in the UK.
