Antony Clarkson: Residency

About

Antony Clarkson is a practicing international artist and lecturer on Visual Arts Programmes in both the UK and Europe. His situation-specific practice encompasses many themes as it explores the nature of inspiration. Working with diverse materials and techniques, Antony's work looks at 'potential' within materials and spaces.

In 2012 Antony took up a two month residency at 501 Artspace in Chongqing, China during which he spent time learning about growing Chongqing and its evolution as a city, as well as the effects of this on its inhabitants. Antony was particularly keen to draw parallels between industrious Chinese society and Manchester's cultural heritage. From this residency emerged a preoccupation with the spread of illumination within space, producing a unique installation exaggerating and extending shafts of natural light within the rectangular gallery space.

Antony will take up residence at CFCCA for two weeks to reflect on and share his experiences from Chongqing and a new installation will take shape in the Residency studio for you all to immerse yourself in a piece of China.
