AMC: LifeDrawing Inspiration from Cartoons, Pride and “Sensible Footwear”

This vibrant book charts the arc of LGBTQI+ history (emphasis on the ‘L’) in the UK, as the author takes us on a PRIDE march past personal and political milestones from the 1950s to the present day. Kate’s style—feisty, questioning, open, witty and sometimes angry—is the perfect vehicle to communicate the history of feminism, activism and liberation.

As the spirit of social activism is important to us of the AMC, we are proud that our first official collaboration with the Museum involves creating a session inspired by this important document of social history!

Modelling for you will be AMC founder Manko, joined by a special model guest Lee, a very talented artist, tattooist and illustrator herself, working under the name of Hybrid Desire (https://www.instagram.com/hybriddesire/). Together Manko and Lee will evoke dynamic interactive poses, drawing inspiration from comics, Pride, and, naturally, sensible footwear.

Expect multiple outfit changes!

Models will be engaging in dynamic character roleplay, which would be of use to cartoonists, comic artists, animators, and any life drawing practitioners who wish to focus on creating convincing everyday scenarios of human interactions including emotion, facial expressions and body language. That is the idea of the life drawing at the Cartoon Museum: action poses, mid-action poses, anything that cartoonists could draw and put a caption on. Or use for their own comic!

Life drawing session starts at 1pm, but the ticket holders are very welcome to come from 12:30 and look around the museum to draw inspiration.
Be sure to enjoy the In Focus display curated by the Front of House and Retail Manager Alison Brown. The display starts with how Kate works and plans things out (it’s not often you seen how an artist plans out what to do!), some pieces from the pages of the book, a little potted ephemera history including Kate’s Leather Jacket with badges.
