About
Ambivalent is a group exhibition dedicated to explore how the ever-fascinating human mind can turn into an ambiguous field. Twelve artists explore the coexistence, antagonism and conflict that the diversity of feelings and ideas produce.
Ambivalent presents a selection of works in plural dialogue showing the different approaches that converge into the ambivalence and its variants. What is the relationship between ambivalence and life, our society and us? Does this ambivalence flow us in a process of neutrality? Does it drive us toward self-restraint? The works of Elle Kennedy, Gabriel Andreu and Imantas Selenis investigate the self-ambivalence concerning identity, life experiences and human relationships. On the other hand Hannah Thual challenges the audience to explore the ambivalence in-between reality and illusion by the innovative use of a hologram. Exhibiting for the first time in the UK, John Ros, Yiyun Kang and Ryo Shimizu propose site-specific installations that will overwhelm the audience.
The exhibition is a curatorial collaboration from the students of Curating the Contemporary MA course taught in conjunction with the Whitechapel Gallery and the CASS Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design. It is collectively curated by Margarida Brà ´co Amorim, Alejandro Daniel Ball, Caterina Berardi, Alex A. Dà az, Silvia Meloni, Jack Parrott, Kornelia Pawlukowska, Iveta Ratarova, Mariaelena Soligo and Stefania Sorrentino.
