The New Art Gallery Walsall is delighted to be working with British/Argentinean artist Amalia Pica (b.1978) on a major solo exhibition exploring the material culture of bureaucracy.
About
Pica will repurpose materials and motifs reflecting the language of bureaucracy, such as shredded paper and office stationery, to produce works that parody and subvert the bureaucratic system. The artist’s personal experience of obtaining British citizenship and the wider context surrounding the UK’s exit from the European Union provide a unifying conceptual framework for the exhibition.
Amalia Pica is known for her installations and sculptural works which explore forms of communication and realms of civic participation. The exhibition will comprise new works as well as the epic installation Joy in Paperwork: The Archive, (2016), presented originally at the 11th Gwangju Bienniale. This will be the first time it can be seen in its entirety in the UK.
Supported by the Henry Moore Foundation.
