About
Alwin LAY choreographs everyday objects, tools, and toys with high precision in spatially abstracted scenarios that develop differently than initially expected. His dramaturgy of reception invites viewers to identify with what is shown: moments of disappointment, failure, tragedy, and humor.Directly opposed to this are LAY’s hyper-aestheticized representations of the photographic medium and phototechnical processes. In doing so, he continues the discourse, ongoing since the invention of photography, about its deceptive promises as well as the unwavering hopes placed in it.
