Showing as part of Altered Festival 2015, 'NoThing' is a work that is part performance, part installation showing in the historic church of St. Mary's in Swineshead, Lincolnshire.
Katy Armes recent work has involved site specific installations that use subtle but deliberate interventions of cleaning. By removing dust and dirt attention is drawn to not only what has been removed, but also what remains. NoThing, was oringally developed as a site specific response to St John the Baptist's, Hellington, Norfolk, and is part installation, part performance.
Altered Festival 2015 marks the conclusion of Altered: Contemporary Art in Ancient Churches – a pioneering initiative masterminded by partners the University of Lincoln, the Diocese of Lincoln and artsNK – which has for years challenged audiences to view historic church buildings in innovative ways through new artworks.
