Sitting somewhere between graphic art, typography and iconography, 'Alphabeticon' is a set of paintings exploring human perceptions of symbolism and aesthetics.
About
Lefty Le Mur is a graphic and street artist based in London. Maltese by birth, and having studied graphic design and also illustration in the UK, Lefty's work is informed as much by dialogues between semiotics and human memory as it is by literature, iconography and geometry.
'Alphabeticon' marks a return to painting for Lefty. The name itself is a combination of the words 'Alphabet' and 'Lexicon', and signifies a retreat to a style that aims to be as pared-down and as elemental as possible. It represents an exploration of the building blocks of collective human cognition as reflected through basic human visual language such as archaic symbolism and basic geometry.
