About
53 Beck Road is pleased to present Along the Coast of Austria, bringing together recent paintings by Joshua Sex and ceramic work by Akiko Hirai. The exhibition is accompanied by a conversation in text form between Mathis Gasser and Joshua Sex.
Joshua Sex (Ireland) lives and works in London. After studying at NCAD he went on to study painting at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2013. Recent exhbitions include Ass’s Bite at Melange (Cologne), Every Emotion Under the Sun, that’s what I’m Feeling at Plaza Plaza (London) and Cu Chulainn Comforted at Basic Space (Dublin). Upcoming exhibitions include Ex Materia at Berthold Pott (Cologne).
Akiko Hirai (Japan) lives and works in London. She graduated from Central St. Martins in 2003 and was head of ceramics at Kensington and Chelsea College until September 2015. Recent exhibitions include a solo presentation at Beaux Art (Bath) until November and New Members Showcase at Contemporary Applied Arts (London). She will be exhibiting at SOFA Chicago (New York) with Flow Gallery in Nov 2015.
