Alles Muss Raus. Reproduktives Entwerfen

Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin was already dealing with a fundamental problem at the "Great Exhibition" at the Crystal Palace in 1851 (1): What happens when the conditions of production change from the artisanal to the industrial? The architecture collective REPRO* addresses this resurgent question with regard to AI in the exhibition ALLES MUSS RAUS at the HilbertRaum in Berlin-Neukölln:

Exhibits that were previously created by hand using laborious and time-consuming processes no longer fit into today's picture-perfect world, which is quickly massproduced using artificial intelligence. The photomontages and collages were developed under precise architectural perspectives within the framework of twoweek summer studios. They have not been optimised for the widest possible mass reception by means of the technical possibilities now available.

The first part of the exhibition thus remains completely rooted in the world before AI. It is a retrospective and summary of the extensive reproductive work developed between 2014 and 2020, which, in line with our current logic of exploitation, will be sold off (at the maximum price, of course) or made usable again through upcycling. The second part of the exhibition presents an outlook and a new beginning with the publication of the magazine REPRO*MASCHINE. Initial experiments with AIgenerated image series show that the theses set out in the 2014 Reproductive Manifest (2) have lost none of their relevance. Especially given the possibilities and transformational potential that the use of artificial intelligence offers us, they will gain in significance.
