A collection of sketches made from the artist's walks around the area of Fitzrovia, London W1

This exhibition focuses on the area of Fitzrovia in central London, where artist Alison Neville frequently visits and adores. It is also the area surrounding the Curwen Gallery.

Alison has a love of architecture, and Fitzrovia’s growingly eclectic mix of styles offers a whole range of diversity from the elaborate and decorative Victorian buildings and features, to newly built additions to the urban landscape. This collection of sketchbook-like drawings maintain the immediacy of having been made in situ, and have a beauty in their simplicity of line and form. They capture the energy of movement and the hustle and bustle of this part of the city. Her trademark style of skewed perspectives gives new life and character to familiar buildings and places appreciated by those who might visit briefly, or those who live or work in the area every day.

Alison Neville was born in Zimbabwe in 1945. She moved to England in 1962 to study Fine Art at Gloucestershire College of Art and Portsmouth University. She has a BA in Fine Art, and a postgraduate teaching qualification from London University. From 1974 to 1976 she studied printmaking at Boston University. Her work has been regularly exhibited by the Curwen Gallery since 1983.
