Whitewater Contemporary’s Featured Artist series continues this summer with a new collection of still life paintings by Alison Dickson.
About
Alison’s work takes inspiration from interior spaces and the familiar but significant objects of domesticity – ceramics, furniture, plates of fruit and vases of flowers – to explore themes of belonging, identity and memory. By simplifying shapes and perspective she aims for subtlety of line and colour, creating a playful narrative within each work that prompts the viewer to consider the story behind each carefully arranged table setting, or each view through an open window.
Alison was born in Northern Ireland but has lived for many years in Edinburgh. In 2024 she was awarded the Debra Manifold Prize at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour Annual Exhibition. She has also been awarded the Higher Bridges Prize, which included an art residency at the inspirational Tyrone Guthrie Centre at County Monaghan, Ireland. Her work is selected regularly for the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) and the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) annual exhibitions. She has also had three solo shows to date, including the sell-out exhibition ‘Breathing Space’ in Enniskillen. Her work is held in private collections throughout the UK, Ireland and further afield.
