About
The “Fervor de Cuba” series, made up of more than 40 40 x 60 cm works made of acrylic on cardboard, is a revisiting of the work carried out by Lobaina during the 1990s. The series dialogues with movements that are especially significant for the artist. like pop art, hard edge or minimal art; also melting direct references to his life and current society. This new look at his work contributes semantic and morphological elements as well as “staging” to the recurring emblematic -of pop art roots- of the previous work, constituting true multi-referential palimpsests on more than a few occasions. Somehow it is a re-updating of the discourse from the incorporation of slogans and images of the current moment that establish a counterpoint with those that, without losing validity, refer us to the most rancid years of the so-called special period in Cuba. The series has been created to be exhibited both in separate pieces or as a mural; pretending in that case and given the scale, a hypnosis by the image or the nihilism resulting from the horror vacui.
