For his exhibition at Lewisham Art House, Alex Tyrrell presents Memories We Made in the Computer Age, a multichannel sound installation representing the culmination of a three year sound experimentation project. The installation will also serve as a public launch for the vinyl album, “Memories We Made in the Computer Age”: a series of improvised recordings taken from the early stages of this project.
About
Private View: Saturday 8th August, 7—9pm
Curated by Rebecca Edwards
Lewisham Arthouse: 140 Lewisham Way, London: SE14 6PD
Exhibition: 5th—16th August
Utilising a combination of found recordings, field recordings, and composed music for tuned percussion and modular synthesiser, the installation challenges the normative approach to composition and live performance. The exhibition presents the music in the form of an immersive, multi-channel sound environment, emancipated from the concerns of orchestration and harmonic arrangement; Alex's work problematises the relationship between composition and concept, challenging the listener to explore the physicality of the sound, while attempting to homogenise the relationship between artistic impetus and experience.
Alex Tyrrell is an artist and composer from London. Recent performances/exhibitions include: 10 Empty Boxes (The Vaults Gallery), Computer Music (Progkunstfestivalen, Oslo) and Improvised Series (The Park Studios, Wembley).
