About

Alex Katz is one of the most important and respected living American artists, with a career spanning six decades. Beneath the Surface presents, for the first time in the UK, thirty-six drawings by the artist alongside his iconic paintings and collages. Works on paper, dating from 1949 to 2012 reveal Katz's expertise as a draughtsman and the range of techniques he uses in his paintings ' from small-scale studies in pen, pencil, and charcoal to large-scale preparatory cartoons.
