About
This is to announce Herr H., a solo (and post mortem) exhibition by Aleksandra Badashkeeva, opening August 13, 2025. The exhibition will present original drawings from the graphic novella Herr H., created by the artist when she studied under an exchange program in a graphics class taught by Prof. Marcus Hubert (Muthesius Kunst Hochschule, Kiel, Germany) in 2010. The comics participated in the 5th Morning International Comic Competition M.I.C.C. (Kodansha, Japan) and was nominated for the 10th place.
Aleksandra Badashkeeva was an artist and illustrator, born in the Lake Baikal region, whose unique visual language created specifically for this story was an intricate quintessence of images and textures accomplished in a complex author’s technique, from different modernist traditions and personal experience of living in various cultural surroundings.
Aleksandra wrote: “I always wanted to write a story about a German psyche.
I would picture a special, orderly, strict world, where there is no room for self-reflection, where a level-headed and impassive Man who works diligently, votes, pays taxes, provides for family, pays in installments for his dwelling and furniture, and attempts to make everything look very right.
The story would deal with existence, ascesis, melancholy, suppression of creative elements in the Man, and awakening of some negation, nihilism, and even manifestation of minor rebellion, when the Man suddenly reviews his political beliefs, unexpectedly tracks the desert, travels Seven Seas and beyond, becomes a poet, remits all his fortune to combat unknown diseases, finds religion or messianism.”
Lucky first visitors of the exhibition will get free printed versions of the graphic novella Herr H. in English or German.
The comics Herr H. can be also found at:
- Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
- Library of Arts, Universitätsbibliothek Leipzig
