International non-profit arts organisation ArtCan is launching a new group exhibition, ‘Alchemical’, at Gallery 475 in Fulham Broadway, London from 18th - 28th April.
About
The exhibition focuses on the materials and processes which create each piece, as well as the finished works themselves – hearkening to the medieval practice of alchemy, and involving seemingly magical transformations, creations, or combinations.
Participating artists are also invited to give talks on their practice throughout the exhibition, giving visitors additional insight into the myriad of processes which create such a wide variety of works; for instance, how metal, glass and clay can be affected by heat and pressure, how chemicals can change light into an impression of an object, or even how kitchen waste can be transformed into artwork.
Curator Catherine Sweet says: “ArtCan has a brilliant variety of international members who work in incredible and inventive media. It’s a priviledge to bring this collection together from 26 member artists, and to highlight their talents.
Each of the artists included in this show are breathing stories into the materials they work with - whether that be from the places they have gathered rocks to make their pigments, or through the clay, glass, fabric or plastics that are altered from their original form to create something new.”
The private view will take place on Tuersday 18th April, 6pm - 8.30pm, and free tickets are available via www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/alchemical-exhibition-private-view-tickets-603594646837
