The exhibition "Here" shows pictures by artists from here or with a connection to the Rhinish scene. It thus opens up the large field of the many people in art who live, work or were and are travelling through the Rhineland.
About
Albrecht Fuchs has been photographing artists for more than 30 years in calm, almost stoic portraits. The result is a comprehensive collection of faces, bodies and spaces, a who's who of contemporary art that depicts the art scene of a very specific time with great timelessness. The people depicted seem to linger in their own space, looking outwards and yet somehow inwards. What does their appearance tell us, did we imagine him or her to be completely different, are we disappointed or pleasantly surprised? A photograph only ever shows the surface of things and thus opens up scope for our own interpretations.

The artist portrait has always been a category of its own. It aims to characterise and decipher the artist at the same time. It wants to get to the bottom of a mystery and find out whether connections can be made between the exterior and the work. Fuchs' approach is characterised by the renunciation of effort. He enables contact without it becoming chumminess. Does he nevertheless emphasise the special existence of the artists in his pictures? Yes and no. He is concerned with more than the mere depiction. But a psychologising element is more palpable than tangible when he keeps his distance without distancing himself.
