About
Thackeray Gallery is proud to announce Alasdair Lindsay’s first solo show with us.
Born in Cheshire in 1975, Alasdair Lindsay then came to Cornwall in 1996 to study at Falmouth College of Art and has remained there ever since.
In 2004 Alasdair won 2nd prize in the prestigious Hunting Art Prize and was also selected to exhibit in the Hunting Art Prize in 2000, 2004 and 2005. In 2007 his work was exhibited in the Singer Freidlander Sunday Times Watercolour Competition at Mall Galleries, London.
As a painter I am interested in a range of subject matter, as the title of this show suggests, however water is almost always present in my compositions.
The sea is a constant influence, and I get in or on the water regularly, swimming, surfing or sailing. This interaction gives me ideas for paintings both at sea level, and from the air with the help of my drone. My sea paintings are often an experimental use of my materials, seeing what the painting process can achieve before being brought back to reality by a hard-edged harbour or sea pool wall.
