LOS ANGELES, CA. (October 15, 2019) Akon Lighting LA, is an urban conscious music and art experience, founded by musician Akon: the Grammy-nominated, multi platinum artist, producer and entrepreneur, and Joey Nittolo from The Space Between, to bring people together to exchange ideas, raise awareness and answer the deeper questions we face as a human race. The vegan, alcohol-free event features an impressive collection of art from more than 40 world renowned artists, along with panel discussions, interactive events, and musical performances.
The exclusive group art installation features Banksy’s “Haight Street Rat” installation, as seen in the 2014 documentary Saving Banksy. Mr. Brainwash, the Los Angeles based French street artist and videographer known for his large-scale installations and prints of celebrities, will install his "Life is Beautiful" sculpture; and Los Angeles artists Amanda Sage and Chaz Guest will create live paintings on site and a painting workshop for the kids of Crete Academy, a nonprofit charter school which serves pre-K to 6th grade students experiencing extreme poverty and homelessness.
Eddie Donaldson, co-curator of the art installation says “having the opportunity to bring some of the best artists in Los Angeles together to bring awareness to an urban community to promote mindfulness, yoga and creativity, is an important way to create opportunities in underserved communities.”
Akon Lighting LA opens Friday, November 15, with a group show, curated by Eddie Donaldson and Marlee Sherwin. A surfboard donated by Kelly Slater that’s been painted by RETNA, and a board donated by Laird Hamilton that will be painted on live at the event by Chaz Guest will be put up for a fundraising raffle to raise money for ocean conservation. Additionally more than 40 works will be for sale from: 2Shae, Al-Baseer Holly (ABH), Amanda Lynn, Amanda Sage, Andre Saraiva, Autumn Skye, Brandon Breaux, Brandon Boyd, Cesario Block Montano, Chali 2NA, Chaz Guest, Cisco Adler, The Couto Bros, Cryptik, David Arquette, Defer, Dr. Dax, Estevan Oriol, Harrison Lance Crawford, Israel Guzman, Jas Petersen, Javier Lopez, JD Shultz, Jeff Hamilton, Jef Logan, Jimmy Paintz, Katrin Fridriks, Kenton Parker, lifeafterdeath, Linzy Miggantz, Logik, Love Crew, Mai Lill, Menso One, Mickey Avalon, Mr. Brainwash, Nico Turner, Patrick Conlon, Patrick Hoelck, Plastic Jesus, RISK, Rob Hill, Sawyer Hurwitz, Sean Kushner, Sebastien Walker, Shepard Fairey, TAZ, Tanya Michaela, This Means Mar and more.
Let This Be Therapy, a short film by Anthony Casanova featuring artist Brandon Breaux, best known for his work on Chance the Rapper’s album covers will be screened. Brandon Breaux’s interactive activation educating on mental health titled “On The Line,” will also be featured, after debuting at ComplexCon Los Angeles in early November. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion on mental and spiritual wellness in relation to artistry, featuring Brandon Breaux, Amanda Sage, Chaz Guest, singer Emmanuel Kelly, and other thought leaders. Panel discussions will involve special appearances by Akon and Rev. Michael Beckwith, of the Agape International Spiritual Center. The event will also feature guided yoga and meditation, vegan food vendors, art classes, and activities for families and children. Children 13 and under will be admitted free of charge.
Proceeds of the art sales benefit AKON Lighting Africa, DisclosureFest Foundation and The American Center for the Integration of Spiritually Transformative Experiences (ACISTE).
