Akalines: Salome Jibladze, Méïr Srebriansky, Natalia Bieganska, and Evan Sebastian Lagache

For its second group show, since launching its new Bushwick Gallery in July, Art Apple NYC presents work by Salome Jibladze, Méïr Srebriansky, Natalia Bieganska, and Evan Sebastian Lagache. The show will consist of a range of mediums including acrylic, oil, and epoxy on canvas and includes both bold and subtle pieces by each artist. Centered around water conservation, the show promotes the practice of using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary usage.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Méïr Srebriansky is an abstract painter based in New York City. He earned his BFA from École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg. In France, influenced by French and American New Wave cinema, he painted realism. Srebriansky’s love for cinematography drove him to paint a series he called “Wasted Pictures” which were based on depictions of blurred photographs. It was then that his paintings started entering the world of abstraction. Now, re-occurring shapes often derived from his figurative drawings, and colors, guide his labor-intensive process driven by popular culture, science, and the depths of his own imagination. Moving beyond oil and acrylic, the artist has recently started to incorporate cast resin, wood, and debris in his practice. Srebriansky has participated in residencies at Vermont Studio Center and Con Artist NYC. He has exhibited in the United States, Europe, and Asia at the Belskie Museum, NY; European Parliament, Strasbourg; The Boring Gallery at 106 Rivington, NYC; HK Walls, Hong Kong; and one of his murals is permanently on view at The Mes Hall, NY. Srebriansky continues to actively make work out of his studio at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City.

Evan Sebastian Lagache is an abstract-futuristic artist based in New York City. His work captures the essence of the gridded metropolis, in all of its twists and turns. His process evolves like a visual symphony, directed by the creator and orchestrated by manipulating contrasting mediums; Acrylic, Oil, Ink, Graphite, and Collage. His colors are inspired by the energy of the city, from the bustling of subway tracks to the sound of a jazz band in the park. The ever-changing streets never cease to spark creativity for this emerging artist. Lagache is not only an abstract artist but also a curator of his own style of art which he titles “Abpsyche” or “Abpsychism” which is his own form of Abstract Psychedelic Expressionism.

Salome Jibladze was born in Tbilisi Georgia. Her senior year in high school was challenging because of ongoing military conflicts and destruction in the country. The only escape for Salome from a dark reality was art. After graduating high school in 2001, Salome was accepted to Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, where she received her BA in 2006. In addition to creating patterns for fabric and decorating ceramics, she had been painting in bold vibrant colors to escape the dull reality of everyday struggles. After marrying and giving birth to her daughter, Solome tragically lost her husband and used her art once again to find a happier reality for herself. Her colors became even more lively and forceful. Salome eventually held her first solo exhibition at Tbilisi History State Museum “Karvasla” in 2016. Her second solo exhibition, in 2017, was held in FABRICA center in Tbilisi. Following the success of this show, Pragma Art Group invited her to exhibit at the Kaufman Center in New York. Today, Salome’s paintings have become even more personal and explore sensual and sexual women who have not found their faces yet — their features blurred and unidentifiable.

Natalia Bieganska is a Polish artist living in New York. From one-line drawings, to patterns, to neon infinity mirrors, Natalia has been creating art in different forms from a young age. Not only has she been inspired by the vast differences in geographies and people, Natalia is inspired by the multitude of colors and patterns each country has to offer. She views art as a new language that is universal in nature, and just like a mother’s homemade meal, can bring so much joy to any person; her art generates a real sense of inspiration and comfort. Most of the characters in her work are all fictional and inspired by diversity in the world. She feels lucky to be born during these times where art can travel so quickly from just one small post and can touch the hearts of anyone in just a second. Natalia has lived in and traveled to over 20 countries; immersing herself in different cultures has shaped her work and opened her spheres of influence.

A percentage of sales from the AKALINES exhibit will be donated to Beach Recovery Foundation. (Beach Recovery Foundation seeks out and funds research and development opportunities designed to recover eroded coastlines.)
