âHorizons', our first exhibition of 2011, spotlights recent works by the Nigerian abstract expressionist painter, Ayoola Gbolahan, whose work maximises the communicative power of the human figure. Gbolahan employs symbols and motifs that convey issues such as aggression, religion, heritage, sexuality and social relationships. His figurative abstraction endows his paintings with a sense of recognition across a universal spectrum and an uncanny sense of mysterious wonder.
