About

Memoire 14 (Memory 14) Ahmed Bouanani, Morocco 1971, 30 min ‘Memory 14 was primarily a poem that I wrote in 1967, some fragments of which are actually used in the film. I use anachronous memories, memories rich with myths to recompose the ‘reality' of my characters and the world they live in.' (A. Bouanani) Memory 14 was made using archive footage from the Moroccan Cinema Center. 6 / 12 Ahmed Bouanani, Abdelmajid R'chich, Mohamed Abderrahman Tazi, Morocco 1968, 18 min ‘We chose images throughout a city - moments - absence and solitude of wet cobblestones at a dull party that has ended ... suddenly the shade - suddenly a gesture, a footstep - the sea or the silence - the silence or the cry - the waiting or the dread - sleep or insomnia - a sign of light surges - a heart caught up between two digits - our faces in the storm the two white-hot figures carved on foreheads, eyes bodies spinning round like magnets in the storm.' Les Quatre Sources (The Four Sources) Ahmed Bouanani, Morocco 1974, 35 min Bouanani's only film in colour, The Four Sources follows a young man along a surreal journey through the mysterious folklore and dark secrets of the desert.
