This series of acrylic and oil paintings by Agnieszka Dabrowska is called: ‘Forgotten/ Forbidden’, taking us on a trip to places that are important to her. The places cast the mind deep into her past, but also the present.

About

This is a journey into the mysterious gardens and deep black forests of the childish curiosity of discovering and testing.

In this body of work the artist is going back to a world seen from a child’s perspective; colorful , adventurous and full of treasures.  “On the snow” 2015, “Poking in Mud” 2015. Is an expedition into the unknown which is  sometimes tinged with danger and anxiety ; “ Waiting to Go” 2016, “Rooster” 2016 . This journey  is like a dream which is  soft and gentle and yet  worrying and scary “Midsummer Night dream” 2015, “ Forest Man” 2016. The landscapes overlaps , the places and events mix into one another; disappearing or cumulating.

This exhibition is to take us into the artist’s inner world ; where she is looking for a harmony in a chaos of events.

Agnieszka’s inspirations comes from the landscape of South East  England   where she lives at the moment  and also from the landscape of South- East Poland; where she originally comes from.   The biggest reflection in her work is  what  surrounds her; people, situations, emotions and dreams.  Dreams open different spaces and desires; you can feel the air, smell and touch things. This is everything that the  artist  aiming for in her works.

“ My approach to painting is spontaneous  however I spend much time prior conceiving what I might paint. All transformations and changes to happen ; allow the painting to paint itself . This is the most important and  exciting thing to me.  My painting is built up by layering; where I use different items to make  textures; matches, clothes, wooden blocks, foil etc. I enjoy finding  bits and bobs in second hand shops, and anything that could serve to make a good mark or interesting line. That’s where the title of forgotten /forbidden also comes from.“
