About
With the Accumulation exhibition, taking place from 12.03 to 02.04.2016, Berlin Art House SomoS presents sculpture and installation by Goran Tomcic & Nándor Angstenberger, that are expressions of process, labor, and materials that are grounded in our everyday world, but that combine to produce awe-inspiring results.
Berlin--With the "Accumulation" exhibition of works by Goran Tomcic & Nándor Angstenberger, SomoS presents two artists whose work is joined by their abiding interest in process and materials; by a hyper-detailed, time consuming, committed and obsessive work process; and by their ability to deeply follow the paths of both, their personal imaginations and their responses to the spirit of the time. The works exhibited here are expressions of process, labor, and materials that are grounded in our everyday world, but that combine to produce awe-inspiring results.
In the time in which art is often consumed by a quick glance at jpg images on social media, Tomcic & Angstenberger's works defy one-dimensional documentation, interpretation and consumption, by requiring an engagement from the viewer. The act of personally perceiving the deeply layered phantasmagorical substances of the works is a highly rewarding task, and it is therefore probable that no two Accumulation viewers witness the same work.
Produced by the painstaking and monotonously repetitive process of appropriating and interpreting common objects as metaphors of, both mourning and happiness, space and movement, Tomcic's sculptures, installations, collages and objects, elegantly and poetically combine references to glamor, self-realization, vulnerability and entropy. Tomcic's works manage to extract an earnest and poignant sense of life in death, and death in life from common and campy motifs and materials.
In his masterfully controlled expansiveness Nándor Angstenberger's elaborate sculptures convey worlds evolving from within themselves, ideas grown into accumulating and ever expanding matter. Imaginatively constructed from discarded everyday materials, they give back to art the ability of wondrous astonishment and whimsical narrative explorations, keeping the whole in check by a keen sense of composition.
