Previous volunteer-only shows have been renowned across the city, with last year's 'Emerge' prompting the Nottingham Post to rank Surface among “the four independent art galleries currently providing arguably the most interesting and authentic art experiences in Nottingham today.”
Past studio artist exhibitions have been equally successful, with last year's 'Nine' reviewed positively by City Arts as “an impressive and wonderful visual celebration of the creative process.”
Above/Below promises an eclectic mix, with vast differences in each contributor's influences and style. Knitting and woodwork mingle with screen printing, classic sketching, contemporary sculpture, installation and projections.
The exhibition opens Friday 1st May with the traditional Surface launch party, featuring a donations bar stocked by our brewery sponsor, Springhead.
