| Synopsis: 

Assuming that the urban habitat is an organic clump of overlapped human actions, these  images cannot be empty of a subject.

The city is made of socially heterogeneous individuals who maintain patterns of coexistence. It brings together diverse human flows and activities and is a register of disperse actions and solitary acts.  These remains can be read as scientific documents, but also as narratives, histories of presence, coexistence and intimacy.

The artificial is closer to Man than nature, but these do not have to be two conflicting concepts. Human action is present in the urban environment in extraordinary manifestations of beaty, both in macro scale - in architectural creations - , as in small details - which can either be deliberate actions or subtle marks of passage.

The ortogonal tendeny of human construction creates easy links to the universe of abstract images. Lines and planes form attractive patterns, both stimulating and relaxing. Reflective materials create impossible or plausible virtual spaces.

This set of images shows a perspective of the reality that emphasises a certain fascination by the enigma of everyday life. Its aim is to allow the aesthetic fruition of visual, almost abstract artefacts, promoting the attention to detail and the delight of the aesthetic abstractionism in the perception of the urban.

Joana Lucas (Lisbon, 1979). Lives and works in Berlin.

1997-2003 Degree in Plastic Arts – Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.

2003 Erasmus Scholar, Statens kunstakademi – Oslo.

2004 Advanced photography course, Portuguese Association of Photographic Art, Lisbon.
