In ...About, Halfway To Somewhere, Daniel Zyk portrays through animation and watercolor an unobstructed understanding of how material conditions can vaporize counterculture into a haze of commerce.

About

Cabin Contemporary is excited to present Daniel Zyk, ...About, Halfway To Somewhere

"Is it right to analyze in a general sense the capital machine

Its workings and what they mean”

Sleaford Mods, Face to Faces (2015)

Daniel Zyk is a punk. (I think he might be amused by the paradoxical humor in that statement.) Few commiserate with the true meaning of punk like Zyk. The decay of punk after aesthetic appropriation by capitalism runs beside the beautiful decay of society and nature. Zyk declines consummation by key market ideology and this refusal is evident in his artistic output. In his music and animations and watercolor paintings, he portrays an unobstructed understanding of how material conditions can vaporize counterculture into a haze of commerce. He will "sell-out" when pigs fly. In ...About, Halfway To Somewhere, Daniel Zyk literally sets a pig to wingnot to acquiesce to the false joys of the free market, rather to introduce again an emancipatory project called punk.

Daniel M. Zyk (born. 1984) holds a BFA in Media Arts and Animation from Art Institute of Philadelphia. He served as an Art Handler/Installation Technician for Atelier Fine Art Services, Philadelphia PA, Masterpiece International, Miami FL and Andrew Edlin Gallery, New York NY. Zyk was an Artist Assistant and Animator for Brent Green’s Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then (2010), a short film in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NY. Daniel is a Bassist and Vocalist for Backroad Burners and Gitmo Watersports. Zyk lives and works in Pottsville, Pa.
