About
ABAB, Arse Butt Arse Butt, the back end of historic abuse. The black woman and her arse has dominated history. Her arse is fat, her butt is big. She is the Saartje Baartman, the Nicki Minaj and the Beyonce. She moves with the wind and jiggles like jelly. She is called booty, bum, junk in the trunk but in the end, she is just an image of her absurdity.
“My work deals with culture and identity in an ambiguous but sometimes literal way. Using performance, I try to re-imagine my own history by using the political discourses attached to the black female body as a way of challenging the ideologies set by the West.”
