Photographer Grace Gelder and performance creator Luke Dixon lead a two-day workshop combining both their practices.

About

Through exercises, discussions and improvisations produce your own images and explore their meaning. Selected images from those produced in the workshop will be featured in The Photographers’ Gallery Instagram feed.

The workshop takes inspiration from the current exhibition 4 Saints in 3 Acts about the opera which defied traditional form and content, radically negotiating the intersection of white and black, queer and straight, avant-garde and mainstream subcultures.

Grace Gelder is a London-based photographer and arts workshop facilitator. She has worked with a diverse range of clients and groups, often collaborating with charities and organisations that support women’s empowerment and wellbeing. Since her Self Marriage unexpectedly went viral in 2014 she has been bringing her love of ritual, self-awareness and visual conversation into her work with a new understanding of what it means to be in front of a lens.

Luke Dixon‘s productions for theatre nomad, of which he was Artistic Director for 20 years, included all-female versions of ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Hamlet’, cross-dressed ‘Duke Bluebeard’s Castle’, ‘Twelfth Night’ and ‘As You Like It’. His academic and teaching work has included Senior Lecturer at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University South Africa and Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University. Dixon’s current practice and research interests include the performer’s relationship with space, eroticism and performance, and the psychology of acting.
