About

Number 26 Caledonian road: a labyrinth of corridors, irregular rooms, winding stairs and timeworn furniture. This is where Leo Giordani ran his Italian delicatessen and lived with his family for decades...

In April 2015 Mr Giordani retired and the much-loved deli - which was well known in the neighborhood especially within the Italian community in Kings Cross - was left empty after fifty years of business. Although the building is now being used as an exhibition space, everything in the house has been left in place, untouched and preserved. Those using the space are taking care of its memory until March 2016 when the business activity will once again commence.

During this short transitional period we will take advantage of the space as it is and pay homage to its history and the idea of transient spaces in urban London. By placing the house at the centre of the exhibition we hope to reignite the space and inspire the artists involved.

Geddes Gallery presents ‘A transient space’, a collective exhibition curated by Cornelia Marland and Miguel Mallol. The five-day residency will be followed by a two-day exhibition from 12th - 13th December 2015.

Seven artists and a group of filmmakers have been invited to create work in direct response to a building, to explore and respond to the space as it is. Time has clearly taken its toll on the flat, it remains as a time capsule, an empty space left and not returned to. The surrounding area of Kings Cross is associated with fast passed, transient, short lived encounters yet this space in the heart of Kings Cross holds onto time, refusing to change...for now.

The artists involved will spend 5 days in the space creating work and sharing experiences in response to their surroundings: there are no rules - the outcome should be fascinating!

Hannah Adlide will be working with filmmakers Louis Judkins and Ellie Bartlett to document the residency.
The participating artists are Andrea Abbatangelo, Alex J. Bunn, Cristina Guitian, James Rogers & Henry Badrick,

Susana Sanroman and William Angus.
