About
Holly Elan Watson presents A Sticky Fingers Picnic, an exhibition showcasing works made over the past year. This collection of vibrant and sensual paintings on paper, raw canvas and silk show intimate scenes from the everyday. A studio sale of older works and prints will run alongside the exhibition.
Watson’s works are an investigation of sexuality and relationships through the senses- namely taste and touch. In these paintings, fruits, flowers and fingers all come together to explore the ways in which various sensations can evoke different emotions, whether that’s the feeling of something soft on your skin or slimy passion fruit seeds on your tongue. Through the use of gently bawdy imagery, Holly Elan invites humor into the works, celebrating the body in ways both silly and sensual.
The title, A Sticky fingers Picnic, is an excerpt from a short story made by combining the titles of works in the exhibition. These stories provide small windows into imagined intimate moments, as do the heavily cropped paintings in the show, encouraging the viewer to mediate on these snippets in time that make up day to day life.
