Yorkshire-based Nicola Rawlings constructs an arrangement of elements which when joined create an impermanent pattern linked to their counterpart forming a network of systems.
About
Nicola Rawlings works from her home studio in West Yorkshire where she currently combines both teaching and selling as a contemporary multi-disciplinary designer maker.
Composition is the new 2015 collection by Seed, which draws influence from recognisable shapes that when connected explores movement and structure using simple horizontal and vertical lines. Nicola constructs an arrangement of elements which when joined create an impermanent pattern linked to their counterpart forming a network of systems.
Many of the forms are constructed using assorted gauges of silver wire representing the use of line expressed within contemporary art. As with many abstract forms black areas dominate, to represent this she incorporates elements of ceramic stoneware, a media she has previously explored for its tactile surface and intense appearance.
Used alongside rubber and vibrant elastics she creates bold contemporary statement pieces designed for the everyday and the extraordinary.
