A PERFORMANCE AFFAIR’s first edition, transforms the second floor of the Vanderborght Building into an immersive space for three days of performances. Continuous and overlapping performance works by international artists will be presented throughout the dynamic venue.
About
I am looking for 5 female performers to participate in my artwork Woman with Salad happening at A Performance Affair during Brussels Art week. Participants will repeat the same few actions based on what women do in stock imagery and historic paintings to become live GIFs. I have choreographed ten actions derived from these various GIFs: Woman Reading Virginia Woolfe, Woman Brushing Her Hair, Woman Peeling Apples, Woman Pouring Water, Woman Waiting, Woman Drinking Wine and Smoking, Woman With Mirror, Woman Holding Shopping, Woman With Avocado and Woman With Salad, from which the overall title is taken. Each work has an audible element, for example Woman With Salad laughs with every gesture of her fork, Woman Peeling Apples sighs in boredom with every glance at her fruit bowl, Woman Brushing Her Hair lets out a pained laugh with every stroke through her hair.
Each performer enacts a work for one hour then takes a short break, returning with another gesture from the possible list of 10 (the 10 props would be positioned around the space). The performance happens for two hours every day of the fair (Friday 7th – Sunday 9th September) and performers will be paid 10EUR an hour.
