These pieces are a new venture for me in that they are static.
Formerly my works have been ephemeral, existing only for a period of time until they dissipate, disappear or conclude - but in this series they solidify.
About
Each of these pieces reflect a time of alchemy and process - an intense negotiation between myself and the work as I respond to liquie pigments of differing viscosities which struggle for supremecy in the face of gravity, air flow and heat dispersion.
Control is followed by abdication as each one continues to develop as it cures.
Finally, there is a moment when it settles into stasis- occasionally, te lsat drip is frozen in time on the surface like a final breath.
There is anxiety evident regarding the edges. Enforced limits suggest containment - but then, a great sense of liberation in breaking through or beyond the borders.
These works are imbued with many layers of metaphor.
