Photographic artist Matt E Lewis is exhibiting work from A Jagged Circle, printed on vinyl at varying scales, utilising floor and wall space in ways that invite engagement with the narrative and existential themes within it.
About
A Jagged Circle grew from a desire for a better understanding of humanity’s complicated relationship with nature. This performative work is a visual allegory of a survivor in a post-apocalyptic, wilder future, with existential themes and feelings behind it. Although starting from a negative place, feelings of ecological anxiety and the uncertainty of what it may take for positive change, there is in the end an underlying message of hope. A Jagged Circle is a contemplation on our true place in the world, considering what it means to be human, and our potential for transformation.
‘Open College of The Arts student Matt Lewis’ photographic series A Jagged Circle’ features human forms merging with the natural landscape, cleverly intertwined with surfaces such as rock faces, water pools and tree barks’ (a-n Degree Shows Guide 2024).
Visitors are invited to bring headphones to play a soundscape to the images, accessed by scanning a QR code. Meet the artist on Saturdays 15th and 22nd June.
**Please note the exhibition closes 30 minutes earlier at 16:30 on 22nd June.**
