A Home Unpacked, a collaboration between artist Adrian Brooks and writer/performer Shane Anderson explores stories and remembrances of home through a fusion of theatre and handcrafted objects.
About
Shane Anderson and Adrian Brooks both grew up in Edwardian terraced houses: Shane in Northern Ireland, Adrian in South London. Through this collaboration they have discovered that their early experiences of home are remarkably similar, and that their stories are shared by so many others:
"A home is inhabited with a thousand memories. It has corners where we sulked, cupboards in which we hid, doors we slammed. We recall memories of the creaky stair, the door handle that twisted awkwardly, and ghostly shadows in the passage. Our dreams were, and still are, populated by our memories of Home"
In A Home Unpacked, through the use of a monologue and a Travel Theatre, Shane and Adrian journey through their childhood homes to explore how early encounters with inhabitants, architecture and furnishings created an indelible emotional blueprint on which many of their daily hopes, dreams and responses to life are built.
