Vader creates a vivid world with seven shimmering paintings, bringing a little Australian warmth to the Berlin winter, with swooping cockies and bemused deer gracing the gallery walls.
About
The exhibition arose following revelations of one adventurous cockatoo that enjoyed the company of an Egyptian sultan and a Sicilian emperor in the 1200s, having been collected during a trading voyage that spanned years. Depictions of this well-travelled cockatoo were recently discovered in a Medieval manuscript residing in the Vatican - turning notions of Australia's 'discovery' by European cultures in the 18th century on its head.
Vader captures the inherent joy and bold spirit of these creatures, and brings their spirit to Europe 800 years after their forebear first visited the continent.
