Infused with a mischievous spirit, A Gesture that is Nothing but a Threat is a hypnotic work of rapid verbal and physical repetitions, exploring how words, voices and sounds relate to the body. Created and performed by Portuguese artists Sofia Dias and Và tor Roriz, this playful and energetic piece was awarded the Prix Jardin d'Europe in 2011.
Since 2006, Sofia & Và tor have performed in Portugal, Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland, Romania, Belgium, England and The Netherlands. They are associate artists at Materiais Diversos and Espaço do Tempo.
Sofia Dias studied dance in Lisbon and in New York. She has worked with Sofia Neuparth, Ronit Ziv/Companhia Instável, Javier de Frutos/C.I., Alias Compagnie/Guilherme Botelho, Lilia Mestre/Random Scream, Corinne Rochet/Co. Utilité Publique, Maria Ramos, Luà s Guerra de Laocoi, Tà ¢nia Carvalho, Clara Andermatt and Marco Martins. She also develops the soundscapes for her performances.
Và tor Roriz studied Sports in Porto and dance in Porto and Lisbon. He has worked with Paola Moreno, Bruno Dizien, Wim Vandekeybus/à Š¡ltima vez, Guilherme Botelho/Alias Compagnie, Lilia Mestre, Davis Freeman/Random Scream, Aldara Bizarro, Abraham Hurtado, Clara Andermatt and Marco Martins.
