About
A Friendship Across Europe - Peter de Francia and Renato Guttuso
A selection of drawings by the British artist Peter de Francia made in Italy in the years 1947 to 1953. It is dedicated to the friendship between the two artists who met in post-war Italy. Peter de Francia worked in Rome in the circle of Guttuso and at times in the same studio. Both artists shared a belief in Neo-Realism and social engagement.
Guttuso on de Francia:
‘This passionate feeling for human affairs is always to be found in his work, whether he is tackling great dramatic themes of modern life, or simple subjects such as nudes, portraits or people in trains or on the street.’
