Discover the language of flowers at the Curious Duke Gallery

About

This  month  sees  the  opening  of  a  spectacular  new  show  at  London’ s  Curious Duke Gallery: Simone Webb’ s A Floral Dialect, opening on the 1st June.

A rising star on the contemporary art scene, Simone’ s work demonstrates a delicate melancholy,  with flora and fauna  blooming  and decaying as arrangements of petals float seamlessly in space.

Simone’ s  work  is  influenced  by  traditions  born  over  a  hundred year’ s  past,  when flowers were messages used to communicate feelings and thoughts.  She explains it’ s this ‘ language of flowers’  that she explores in her latest body of work:

“Whilst floriography was very popular in the 18th century with the Victorians sending flowers  to  portray  their  feelings  or  intentions,  the  language  of  flowers  has  evolved into something much more multifarious than ever. “

“Black  roses  not  only  portray  death  and  sadness  but  also  signal  the  birth  of  a  new era of hope and joy, allowing the ability to see beauty and positivity in something that was once only viewed as morbid. Of course, we also have certain flowers that evoke emotions  within  us,  allowing  us  each  to  create  our  very own  personal  language  of flowers.”

The  uplifting  feel  to  this  show  makes  it  one  of  the  must-see  exhibitions  to  visit  this month.

A  Floral  Dialect  will  be  on  display  between  1st  June –  1st  July  at  Curious  Duke Gallery, five minutes walk from Old Street tube.
