Join an intimate discussion of the themes of Muntjac: Fleeting correspondences on invasion, invitation, ill-logics and brown bodies.

About

In place of a private view, join us for an intimate co-conspiring discussing the themes of Muntjac: Fleeting correspondences on invasion, invitation, ill-logics and brown bodies. Join artist Becky Lyon and culinary artist and writer Barney Pau for a cosy chat where we'll thought-wander across themes of deviance, the absurdity of the native'n'natural, more-than-human wisdom, making theory material, healing strategies against hostility to bodies, disturbance, ecological imperialism, scape-deering among other things. Accompanied by teas, tonics and nibbles.

About your co-conspirators

Becky Lyon (She/her)

Becky Lyon is a London-born and based English-Jamaican artist and researcher. She uses art practice to come into relationship with and elicit insights from nature about how to live well alongside each other and explore how our socio-political worlds are and could be shaped with a focus on 'urban' ecological sites. Recurring themes in her work are sensing bodies, tactile processes and the touchy-feely; earthly curriculums and counter-currents; power relations and possibling; softness, oozing and slippery edges; intimacy and quiet resistance. Her work manifests as installations, rituals, photographic objects, handmade moving images and text. She is founder of Ground Provisions - an artist-led, schooled-by-the-forest for grown ups and the Squishy Sessions research collective. She has an MA Art & Science from Central Saint Martins and an MA Art & Ecology from Goldsmiths University of London. In September she will start her PhD under The Centre of Art and Ecology at Goldsmiths. She is a volunteer London National Park City Ranger. She side-hustles as a consultant and trends researcher for global brands.

Barney Pau (he/they)

I am a creative working at the confluence of food and art, and writing, whose practice focuses on food futures, queering consumption, the history of agriculture, and foraging and fermenting as social resistance. I believe that food, in its ubiquity, transcends language, and by applying its powers of communication as a medium, it is possible to impart the wisdom of sustainable consumption to others. I thus use food in my practice to communicate the research I am doing. In 2021 I founded Finger Food Magazine: a contributor focussed space for stories, artwork, and essays, in any and all mediums, exploring cooking, craft, and creation. The third issue of Finger Food is currently in progress. When I'm not baking bent bread, peering at plants on the pavement, or painting erotic landscapes, you can usually find me foraging for my food or reading books on baking.
